The term women represents the female population of a country. In India ratio of women is less than that of men. Women of India often experiences numerous problems faced by women all over the world. Such problems are female foeticide, burning of women for dowry, sati paratha, early marriage, child marriage,female genital mutilation. Few of these problems are still prevalent in India.

However women in India are doubly burdened because of their gender, caste, class, community to which they belong to. Along with this, the burden of household work always comes on women's shoulder. They are doubly burdened because they also have to work outside their homes. Despite of all this there are various positive role models such as Indira Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Bachendri Pal and Mithali Raj who have excelled in their fields.
