Esaay on Swachh Bharat

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is also known as Clean India Mission. This mission started in two thousand fourteen and it is in its second phase now. It was inaugurated by honourable Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi. The first phrase of this Abhiyan focused at solid waste management and open defecation system. This is not the first time though when the idea of cleanliness and hygiene has gained so much attention.

Previously also, Mahatma Gandhi has talked about the importance of clealiness. He has talked about the importance of having a clean body, mind and surrounding. He even said that cleanliness is godliness as cleanliness is a virtue worth inculcating. Gods reside where cleanliness is. On the importance of cleanliness, he has talked about the importance of keeping one's body and surrounding clean by brushing twice a day, regularly bathing, doing household workw cleaning our toilets by ourselves and not throwing waste outside our homes.

The first phase of Clean India Mission and Gandhi's vision of India both talked about giving due respect to sanitary workers. Sanitary workers or safaai mitras as we called them is aimed at raising awareness and respect towards these people as those who help us. Now a days we have safaai mitras coming to our houses with garbage van urging people to throw their garbage in the van.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan also raises awareness on dry and wet waste. Dry waste is known as non biodegradable waste and wet waste as biodegradable waste. Biodegradable waste examples are dry leaves, wood, paper,  peels of fruits and vegetables. Examples of non biodegradable waste are plastic, metals and steel etc. The biodegradable waste is to be put into green dustbin while non biodegradable in blue dustbin.
