# The outer dimensions of a closed wooden box are 10 cm by 8cm by 7cm . Thickness of the wood is 1cm . Find the total cost of wood required to make box if 1 cm^3 of wood costs Rs 2 .

Solution :  The external dimension of the box are :

Length = 10 cm , Breadth = 8 cm , Height = 7 cm .

$\therefore$              External volume of the box $=$     $(10\times 8 \times 7)cm^3=560cm^3$

Thickness of the wood = 1 cm

$\therefore$              Internal length = $10-2=8cm$    ,    Internal  breadth =  $8-2=6cm$

Internal height =  $7-2=5cm$

$\therefore$            Internal volume    $= (8\times 6 \times 5)cm^3= 240cm^3$

Volume of the wood $=$ External volume  $-$  Internal volume

$=$   $(560-240)cm^3=320 cm^3$

Hence , total cost of wood required to make box   =   Rs $(320\times 2)$   $= Rs640$
