The output characteristics of an n-p-n transistor in common emitter configuration is as shown in the figure.

 (a) Find the emitter current at V_{CE}=10.0\: V and I_{b}=40\: \mu A, and

 (b) Current gain '\beta ' at this point.

a) Given, 

Collecter to emitter voltage, V_{CE}=10.0V

Base current    I_{b}=40\: \mu A

From the graph,

when I_{b}=40\: \mu AI_{c}=6\: m A

The emitter current :

I_{E}=I_C+I_B

       =6\: mA+40\: \mu A

       =6.04\: mA

b) Current gain, 

\beta =\frac{I_C}{I_B}

\beta =\frac{6\times 10^{-3}}{40\times 10^{-6}}=150

The current gain is 150.
