The thickness of a hollow wooden cylinder is 2cm . it is 35 cm long and its inner radius is 12cm . Find the volume of the wood required to make the cylinder , assuming it is open at either end .

Solution:  We have , 

                 r=  Inner radius of the cylinder =12cm

                 Thickness of the cylinder =2cm

	herefore              R= Outer radius of of the cylinder =(12+2)cm=14cm

                  h= Height of the cylinder =35 cm

	herefore                 Volume of the wood = pi(R^2-r^2)h

                                                      =frac227	imes left  (14)^2-(12)^2 
ight \times 35 cm^3

                                                       =frac227	imes(14+12)	imes (14-12)	imes 35 cm^3

                                                        =22	imes 26	imes 2 	imes 5=5720cm^3
