The volume of metallic cylindrical pipe is 748 cm^3. Its length is 14cm and its external radius is 9cm . Find its thickness .

Solution: We have ,

                               R= external radius of pipe = 9cm , h= length of the pipe = 14cm 

                                V= volume of the pipe = 748cm^3

Let r be the internal radius in centimetres . Then , 

                                 Volume =748cm^3

Rightarrow                              pi(R^2-r^2)h=748cm^3

Rightarrow                              frac227	imes (9^2-r^2)	imes14=748

Rightarrow                              81-r^2=frac74844Rightarrow 81-r^2=17Rightarrow r^2=64Rightarrow r=8cm

       Hence , thickness of the pipe = (R-r)cm = (9-8)cm =1cm
