those oxides which acts both acid as well as base is called amphoteric oxides.

Amphoteric oxides react both with acids and base to form salt and water.

Example -  ZnO (Zinc Oxide)

In acid : ZnO+H_{2}SO_{4}\rightarrow ZnSO_{4}+H_{2}O

In base : ZnO+2NaOH +H_{2}O\rightarrow Na_{2}\left [ Zn(OH)_{4} \right ]
