Soap molecules have a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail. In water, the tails hide inside while the heads face outward.
This results in the formation of a micelle.
This traps dirt and grease and helps in cleaning the surfaces.
Micelles do not typically form in solvents like ethanol.
