What is a nacent oxygen? Give an example.

Answers (1)

The term nascent oxygen refers to oxygen that has just been made, presumably in a chemical reaction. Nascent oxygen is formed when ozone gas gets reduced because of presence of UV rays. The reaction occurs as follows:

\mathrm{O_{3}\:\rightarrow \: O_{2}\: +\: [O]}

This nascent oxygen then quickly gets bonded with another oxygen atom to form O2 molecule agian. We can also say that nascent oxygen is a single oxygen atom which has not bonded with another oxygen atom.
