Methane hydrate, also known as “burning ice”, is a solid formed when methane is frozen into water. The CH4 trapped within the crystal lattice structure in pores of frozen H2O. When a heat source is applied, the water converts back into a liquid and releases the methane, which combines with the oxygen in the air make fire.
