What is double fertilization?
Double fertilization is a process of reproduction which is seen in angiosperms. Double fertilization includes the fusion of two male gametes (sperm cells) from a pollen grain and two different female gametes within the ovule. This process leads to the formation of two different structures: the zygote which develops into the embryo, and the endosperm. This endosperm serves as a nutritive tissue for the growing embryo and provides nutrition.
The process of double fertilization includes:
Pollination
Release of two Male Gametes
Endosperm Development
Embryo Development
