Positive electron gain enthalpy is the energy required to add an electron to an atom or molecule when it is in the gaseous state. When the enthalpy is positive, then energy has to be supplied so that the atom can accept an electron, and this means the process is not profitable. This usually happens in atoms that have almost full electron shells, for example, noble gases, which are less likely to gain electrons.
