What is thermite reaction ?

Thermite process is a reduction of metal oxide with highly reactive metal like sodium and aluminium. These reactions are highly exothermic. Iron oxide when reacted with aluminium gives iron and aluminium oxide and large amount of heat which melts the metal which is reduced.
