Why Cl has greater bond enthalpy than F?

Answers (1)

Fluorine has lower bond enthalpy than chlorine. This happens because of the size of fluorine is small and F-F bond length is short. Due to this the electrons lie very close to each other and very large electron electron repulsions take place which weakens the bond.
