Sir Sayyid Ahmad Khan started Aligarh movement in 19th century. The movement was started to establish to modern system of education for the Muslim population of British India. The movement was started from Aligarh. He founded Mohamdon Anglo-Oriental college in 1875 in Aligarh. The purpose of the movement was the social, economic, educational, intellectual, political and cultural regeneration of the Muslim Society.
The movement had a profound impact on the Muslim society and to contribute the political emancipation of Indian Muslims.
