Why is the rate of breathing in aquatic organisms much faster than in terrestrial organisms?

Answers (1)

The solubility of oxygen n water is less and hence the amount of oxygen available to the aquatic organism is less as compared to those living in the terrestrial region. Hence to cope up with the demand for oxygen, aquatic animals breathe faster as compared to terrestrial organisms.
