Thee twenty first century can be rightly called the 'Atomic Age'???. A large number of discoveries and inventions were made in this era but the most bewildering one was the discovery of atomic energy. It has given physical comfort, economic glory and weapons of war also. These weapons are so horrible that their use can destroy the whole world at any moment. Therefore we can say that atomic energy is destructive as well as constructive.

The people came to know of its destructive power when America dropped atom bombs on the two cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. Everyone was shocked to see the scene of deaths, destruction, starvation, epidemics and poverty. 

Atomic energy is itself neither destructive nor constructive. It depends on man's mind that can change heaven into hell or hell into heaven. If it is rightly used for the welfare of mankind, it can make wonders. It can cure the most fatal diseases, make us free from the worries of fuel for our mills and factories.It can produce electricity for industrial and domestic purpose and transform deserts into fertile. The wireless sets, television receivers, mercury lamps etc are the gifts of atomic energy.
