Independence is the term used for freedom. This word is also used for indicating coming out of somebody's rule. Independence means taking back your power. It also means to be self reliant and taking responsibility for your actions. Independence thus,  in true sense will mean independence from colonial rule and formation of a sovereign government. This sovereign government will be elected by the citizens. Thus one meaning of independence also associates it with citizenship.

Another frequently used term during and even after independence is nationalism. Nationalism means development of 'we' feelings in people of a nation. We means together, we are part of unity, we are one. There is some feeling which unites us and makes us part of a family. We all are supposed to feel one and show respect to certain symbols of independence such as Indian flag,  monuments, symbols, national song and national anthem.

Our independence day celebration is also a part of displaying nationalism. Our independence day is celebrated on fifteenth of August. Our country, India got independence on fifteenth of August, Nineteen Hundred fourty seven. We fly kites, eat food and celebrate our freedom. Meaning of independence for people means having control over their life and access to basic resources. These basic resources involves clean air, water and food. We also have rights to get access to education and do jobs anywhere in India because it will fetch us money and resources. Thus, independence means people have some rights and duties. We are supposed to abide by the constitution and live a life that is free of exploitation, external control and domination provided you don't cause harm or delimit other person's freedom.
