Dear Anuj,

Hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. I received your invitation letter for your birthday yesterday. Sadly, I have to tell you that I cannot attend the same as I have an exam on the same day. I was planning on attending your birthday but suddenly my exam got delayed and the school fixed the date of your birthday. I even bought a present for you which I have to mail it to you now. I am genuinely upset and extremely sorry. I know it’s a milestone birthday but the exam is something I cannot ignore. Hope you understand my agony. I promise to come to you as soon as my exams finish. Do write to me about your birthday celebrations. Give my regards to all.
