A man weighs 80kg. He stands on a weighing scale in a lift which is moving upwards with a uniform accelaration 10m/s^2. What would be the reading (in Kg) on the scale(g=10m/s^2).

Given:

Acceleration of the lift a = 10 m/s2

Let the normal reaction from the weighing machine (Reading of weighing machine) on man be R.

F.B.D of man-

 

R-mg=ma\\ R=m(g+a)=80\times(10+10)\\ R= 1600N

Let apparent mass of man be m_{app}-

\\ R=m_{app}g \\ m_{app}\times10=1600\\ \Rightarrow m_{app}=160kg
