A resistance of 2 \Omega is connected across one gap of a metre-bridge (the length of the wire is 100 \mathrm{~cm} ) and an unknown resistance, greater than 2 \Omega, is connected across the other gap. For null condition in first case, \frac{2}{x}=\frac{1}{100-1} \text { or } 1x=200-21 \ldots . . .(1)

and for second case , \frac{x}{2}=\frac{1+20}{100-(1+20)}

or  \frac{x}{2}=\frac{1+20}{80-1}

or  80 x-1 x=21+40 \ldots . .(2)
