An object of mass 8 kg hanging from one end of a uniform rod CD of mass 2 kg and length 1m pivoted at its end C on a vertical wall as shown in the figure. It is supported by a cable AB such that the system is in equilibrium. The tension in the cable is:

The rod is in equilibrium. So, net torque about any point will be zero.
\begin{aligned} & \tau_{\mathrm{c}}=0 \\ & \mathrm{Mg} \times 50+80 \times 100=\mathrm{T} \sin 30^{\circ} \times 60 \end{aligned}
\begin{aligned} & 20 \times 50+80 \times 100=\frac{T}{2} \times 60 \\ & \mathrm{~T}=\frac{900}{3}=300 \mathrm{~N} \end{aligned}
