Consider the following equilibrium

White precipitate of AgCl appears on adding which of the following ?

Option: 1

NH_{3}

Option: 2

aqueous NaCl

Option: 3

aqueous HNO_{3}

Option: 4

aqueous NH_{4}Cl

Answers (1)

best_answer

Given,

 \mathrm{AgCl\downarrow + 2NH_{3}\rightleftharpoons [Ag(NH_{3})_{2}]Cl}

\mathrm{[Ag(NH_{3})_{2}]Cl\xrightarrow[]{aq. NaCl}{\rightarrow}AgCl\downarrow }

White ppt of AgCl will appear by adding aq. NaCl as Cl ion from NaCl added will shift the equilibrium in a backward direction resulting in the formation of AgCl ppt.

Therefore, option(2) is correct.
