Five equal resistances each of resistance R are connected as shown in the figure. A battery of V volt is connected between A and B. The current flowing in AFCEB will be:

Option: 1

\mathrm{\frac{3V}{R}}

Option: 2

\mathrm{\frac{V}{R}}

Option: 3

\mathrm{\frac{V}{2R}}

Option: 4

The equivalent circuit is as shown in figure (i), which is a balanced wheatstone bridge. There will be no current in arm CD. Hence the effective circuit will be as shown in figure (ii).

The resistance of arm AFCEB \mathrm{= R + R = 2R}

When a potential difference V is applied across A and B, then current in arm AFCEB is \mathrm{I=\frac{V}{2 R}}
