A galvanometer with its coil resistance 25 Ω requires a current of 1 mA for its full
deflection. In order to construct an ammeter to read up to a current of 2 A,
the approximate value of the shunt resistance should be :

  • Option 1)

    2.5\times 10^{-3}\Omega

  • Option 2)

    1.25\times 10^{-2}\Omega

  • Option 3)

    1.25\times 10^{-3}\Omega

  • Option 4)

    2.5\times 10^{-2}\Omega

As we have learned

Required shunt -

s= \frac{i_{g}G}{(i-i_{g})}

- wherein

i_{g}- Current through galvanometer

1mA= (2A)\frac{R_{s}}{R_{s}+R_{g}}  or 1mA= \frac{R_{s}+R_{g}}{R_{s}}=1/2000

or 1mA= \fracR_{g}}{R_{s}}=1999  or \frac{R_{g}}{1999}=R_{s}=\frac{25}{1999}= 1.25*10^{-2}

Option 1)

2.5\times 10^{-3}\Omega

Option 2)

1.25\times 10^{-2}\Omega

Option 3)

1.25\times 10^{-3}\Omega

Option 4)

2.5\times 10^{-2}\Omega
