An observer moves towards a stationary source of sound of frequency n. The apparent frequency heard by him is 2n. If the velocity of sound v = 332 m/s, then velocity of observer is

  • Option 1)

    166 m/s

  • Option 2)

    664 m/s

  • Option 3)

    332 m/s

  • Option 4)

    1328 m/s

best_answer

n'= n[\frac{v+v_{0}}{v}]\Rightarrow 2n= n[\frac{v+v_{0}}{v}]

\frac{v+v_{0}}{v}= 2 \Rightarrow v_{0}=v= 332m/s

Frequency of sound when source & observer are moving away from each other -

\nu {}'= \nu _{0}.\frac{C-V_{0}}{C+V_{s}}

- wherein

C= Speed of sound

V_{0}= Speed of observer

V_{s}= speed of source

\nu _{0 }= Original frequency

\nu {}'= apparent frequency
