For identity, 

a^2=0\Rightarrow a=0

a^2-a=0\Rightarrow a(a-1)=0

\Rightarrow a=0,1

and a^3=0\Rightarrow a=0

So a =0

But question askes for value of x and thus is a polynomial identity. So x can take any real value.
