For the equation S+K=0  to represent a pair of lines,

\mathrm{\begin{aligned} & \left|\begin{array}{ccc} 1 & 2 & -2 \\ 2 & 3 & 1 \\ -2 & 1 & 1+K \end{array}\right|=0 \\\\ & K=-22 \\ & -K=22 \end{aligned}}
