Let the two points be 1 \, \& \, 2. For electrical symmetry points 3 \, \& \, 4 are equipotential. Now eleminate the resistance connected between 3 \, \& \, 4 as it carries no current. \Rightarrow The equivalent resistance of the residual simple circuit is equal to r / 2.
