The overall order of reaction between X & Y is 2. Which of the following rate equation must be correct, if on doubling the concentration of X, the rate of reaction gets doubled?

Option: 1

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^2[\mathrm{Y}]^0 \\

Option: 2

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^0[\mathrm{Y}]^2 \\

Option: 3

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^1[\mathrm{Y}]^3 \\

Option: 4

\mathrm{r}=\mathrm{K}[\mathrm{X}]^2[\mathrm{Y}]^1

Since order of reaction is 2, option 3 and 4 can not be true as the order is 4 and 3 respectively as per those options.

Further, it is given that the rate of equation gets doubled when concentration of X is doubled which means order of reaction with respect to reactant X is 2.

Hence, r = K [X]^{2} [Y]^{0}.
