Method 1 : Symmetry about entrance point 1 and exit point 7 shows that points (2,4,5) and (5,6,8) are equipotential points. The circuit can be redrawn as shown in figures.

Method II :

\begin{aligned} & \text { Req }=\left(V_1-V_7\right) / 3 i \\ & =\frac{\left(V_1-V_2+V_2-V_3+V_3-V_7\right)}{3 i} \\ & =\frac{r i+r / 2+r i}{3 i} \\ & \text { Req } \quad=\frac{5}{6} r \end{aligned}
