Cyanide process is used for the extraction of Au and Ag. Ag and Au are treated with NaCN in the presence of oxygen and water to form soluble cyanides.

During cyanide process \mathrm{Na}\left[\mathrm{Ag}(\mathrm{CN})_2\right] is formed

4 \mathrm{Ag}+8 \mathrm{NaCN}+2 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}+\mathrm{O}_2 \rightarrow 4 \mathrm{Na}\left[\mathrm{Ag}(\mathrm{CN})_2\right]+4 \mathrm{NaOH}
