Variance -

In case of discrete data 

\dpi{100} \sigma ^{2}= \left ( \frac{\sum x_{i}^{2}}{n} \right )-\left ( \frac{\sum x_{i}}{n} \right )^{2}

 V=\frac{1}{n} \sum x^{2}_{i} - (\bar{x})^{2}

where \bar{x} = \frac{2+4+6+8+10}{5}

\frac{30} {5} = 6

=\frac{1}{5}(220)-36

= 44-36 = 8
