Two coils of self inductance \mathrm{L_{1}\: and\: L_{2}} are connected in series combination having mutual inductance of the coils as \mathrm{M}. The equivalent self inductance of the combination will be :

\rightarrow Flux due to coil 1 and coil 2 are in opposite direction 

\rightarrow The current is same through both the coil

\mathrm{\therefore L_{eq}= L_{1}+L_{2}-2M}
