Two long parallel wires P and Q are held perpendicular to the plane of the paper at a separation of 5 m. If P and Q carry currents of 2.5 A and 5 A respectively in the same direction, then the magnetic field at a point mid-way between P and Q is

Option: 1

\frac{\mu_0}{\pi}

Option: 2

\frac{\sqrt{ } 3 \mu_0}{\pi}

Option: 3

\frac{\mu_0}{2 \pi}

Option: 4

\frac{3 \mu_0}{2 \pi}

Answers (1)

Magnetic field  \mathrm{B=\frac{\mu_0}{4 \pi} \cdot \frac{2 I_1}{r_1}-\frac{\mu_0}{4 \pi} \cdot \frac{2 I_2}{r_2}}

Given  \mathrm{I_1=2.5 \mathrm{~A}, I_2=5 \mathrm{~A}}  and \mathrm{r_1=r_2=2.5 \mathrm{~m}}  Using these values, we get \mathrm{B=-\frac{\mu_0}{2 \pi}}  The magnitude of  B is   \mathrm{\mu_0 / 2 \pi} . Hence the correct choice is (c).
