A lot of energy is required to convert \mathrm{N}_2 \text { to } \mathrm{N}^{3-}ions. This is compensated by the high lattice enthalpy which is high due to high charges on \mathrm{M}^{2+} \text { and } \mathrm{N}^{3-}ion.
