Resistance of bulb: \mathrm{R_{\mathrm{b}}=\frac{V^2}{P}=\frac{(100)^2}{100}=100 \Omega}

If bulb consumes \mathrm{100 \mathrm{~W}, } then p.d. across the bulb should be \mathrm{ 100 \mathrm{~V}. So ~I=\frac{100}{100}=1}

A. And p.d. across \mathrm{ R=500-100=400 \mathrm{~V}}
So \mathrm{ R=\frac{400}{I}=\frac{400}{1}=400 \Omega}
