After inserting the iron rod

L_{final} = \frac{\mu N^2(\pi r^2)}{l}                                \mu > \mu_0

e= -L\left ( \frac{di}{dt} \right )

As L increases, emf induced across the inductor will increase leaving less voltage across the bulb. Therefore, the glow of the light bulb decreases.
