Manganese forms \mathrm{MnO}_4^{-}which is purple coloured. It resides in 4^{\text {th }} period and has multiple oxidation states. But it cannot form MnF7 because of steric congestion. So, It achieves its highest oxidation state by reacting with oxygen to form permanganate anion.
