Aluminium does not react with hot and cold water. But Al on raction with steam,

produces Aluminium oxide \left(\mathrm{Al}_2 \mathrm{O}_3\right).

2 \mathrm{Al}+3 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}+\text { Heat } \rightarrow \mathrm{Al}_2 \mathrm{O}_3+3 \mathrm{H}_2

A thin layer of Alumina (Al2O3) forms on the surface of the aluminium object which provides the shielding layer over the metal and stops it from oxidising any further.
