Two consecutive rings of spring wood
Two alternate rings of spring wood and autumn wood
Two consecutive rings of autumn wood
Two altenate rings of sapwood and heartwood
As we have learned
Annual ring -
Annual rings are formed due to inequal activity of vascular cambium. In winter or autumn season, the activity of the cambium is less and cuts off small sized xylem elements (vessels) which constitute late wood or autumn wood. The vascular cambium is highly active in spring or summer and secondary xylem is formed.
