As we learnt,

 

Power factor -

\cos \phi = \frac{R}{Z}
 

- wherein

R\rightarrow resistance

Z\rightarrow impedence

Power factor,  \cos\phi = \frac{R}{Z}

Inthe given circuit 

\\R = 0.1 \Omega \\Z = \sqrt{R^2 + (X_L - X_C)^2}

\\X_L = \omega L = (2\pi\times 50)\times 10^{-2} = \pi \\X_C = \frac{1}{\omega C} = \frac{1}{100\pi\times 10^{-2}} = \frac{1}{\pi}

Z = \sqrt{(0.1)^2 + \left (\pi - \frac{1}{\pi} \right )^2} = 8\Omega

 

        \Rightarrow \cos\phi = \frac{0.1}{8} = 0.012
