Leukocytes -
- Leukocytes are haemoglobin lacking cells.
- In blood, the number of leukocytes is roughly 6000 - 10,000 per microlitre of blood.
- Leukocytes are generally rounded to irregular in shape.
- These are larger than RBCs.
- The size of leukocytes varies from 12 to 20 micrometre
- Unlike RBCs, leukocytes contain nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, centrioles etc.
- The leukocytes can be of two types i.e granulocytes and agranulocytes.
- Granulocytes are leukocytes with granules in their cytoplasm while agranulocytes are the leukocytes without granules in their cytoplasm.
- Granulocytes are also called polymorphonuclear leukocytes and they include neutrophils, basophils and eosinophils.
- Agranulocytes include monocytes and lymphocytes.
