  • The restriction enzyme Sal I recognizes the palindrome sequence 5’-GAATTC-3’. When the plasmid pBR322 is digested with Sal I, it will cut at the Sal I recognition site resulting in generating the DNA  fragments.
  • If we consider the pBR322, the plasmid does not contain any Sal I recognition sites within its DNA sequence. Therefore, when digested with Sal I, no cuts will be made in the pBR322 plasmid, resulting in a single fragment.
  • Hence, the correct answer is option (1).
