Magnetic Moments (spin only) -

\sqrt{n\left ( n+2 \right )} where n= number of unpaired electron.

Number of unpaired e^{-} s and corresponding magnetic moments

1\rightarrow 1.7\\2\rightarrow 2.8\\3\rightarrow 3.9\\4\rightarrow 4.9\\5\rightarrow 5.9

 

 

Magnetic  moment (\mu) = \sqrt{n(n+2)} B.M.

a.  Co^{3+} \rightarrow n =4

\mu = \sqrt{4(4+2)} = \sqrt{24} B.M.

b. Cr^{3+} \rightarrow n =3

\mu = \sqrt{3(3+2)} = \sqrt{15} B.M.

c. Fe^{3+} \rightarrow n =5

\mu = \sqrt{5(5+2)} = \sqrt{35} B.M.

d. Ni^{2+} \rightarrow n =2

\mu = \sqrt{2(2+2)} = \sqrt{8} B.M.
