Dissolution of anhydrous salt AB

\mathrm{AB +aq + 2H_2O \rightarrow AB.2H_2O (aq) \;\;\;\; \Delta H_1 = -20J/mol}

Hydration of AB salt

\mathrm{AB + 2H_2O \rightarrow AB.2H_2O (s) \;\;\;\; \Delta H_2 = -30J/mol}

Subtracting 2nd equation from first we get

\mathrm{AB. 2H_2O(s) \rightarrow AB.2H_2O (aq) \;\;\;\; \Delta H_{hyd} = \Delta H_1 - \Delta H_2}

\mathrm{\Delta H_{hyd} =-20 + 30 = +10 J/mol}
