Average Speed =  \frac{\Delta x}{\Delta t}

Where, \Delta x = displacement

\Delta t = change in time

According to the Question:

Distance from Bangalore to Pune = X

Time required to cover the first third of the distance at 50 km/hr.

T_{1}=\frac{\frac{x}{3}}{50}

= \frac{x}{150}

Time required to cover the second-third of the distance at 80 km/hr

T_{2} = \frac{\frac{2x}{3}}{80}

= \frac{x}{120}

The total time taken T\ =\ T_1+T_2

  Average Distance, Vavg = \frac{x}{T_1+T_2}

Or,  Vavg = \frac{x}{\frac{x}{150}+\frac{x}{120}}

Or, Vavg = \frac{1}{\frac{1}{150}+\frac{1}{120}}

Or, Vavg = \frac{600}{9}

Therefore, Average Velocity = 66.6 km/hr
