Blood plasma is the pale yellow, transparent and clear fluid which contains various substances such as food, waste products, hormones and gases suspended in it.
90-92% of blood plasma is water, the rest 8-10 % is the solids.
Blood plasma contains mineral salts like chloride, phosphates, sulphates, bicarbonates etc. plasma proteins like albumin, globulin, immunoglobulin, prothrombin and fibrinogen, defence compounds like immunoglobulins, lysozyme, properdin etc, dissolved gases anticoagulants like heparin, hormones, vitamins and enzymes etc.
In the blood plasma, blood corpuscles are also suspended.
The blood corpuscles include erythrocytes, leukocytes and thrombocytes.
The functions of blood plasma include transport, maintenance of pH, prevention of blood loss etc.
