Glycolysis or EMP pathuray -

Occurs in cytoplasm, common to both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. One molecule of glusose is reduced to two molecules of pyruvate.

Glucose + 2NAD+ +2ADP + 2H3PO4 \rightarrow 2Pyruvate + 2NADH + 2H+ + 2ATP

Net gain of ATP = 2ATP + 6ATP (from 2NADH) = 8ATP
