- Bacteria are classified into two groups on the basis of cell wall composition i.e. gra positive and gram negative bacteria.
- Cell wall of all bacteria are made up of peptidoglycan.
- The gram positive bacteria contains thick layer of peptidoglycan (multilayered) about 20-80 nm in thickness.
- However, gram negative bacteria contains thin layer of peptidoglycan (1-2 layer) about 8-10 nm in thickness.
